Wythenshawe’s Young People work with Mike to create change in their community

Mike Kane MP was keen to hear the views of Young People and said; “It was great to see the passion these young people have to make their area a better place to live. I believe the campaign they have planned to improve their local park whilst tackling the negative image of young people is going to make a positive impact and I am looking forward to supporting their work.”

Faye Greaves, an apprentice with WCHG and one of the young people at the event said; “We were quite nervous to begin with, most people had never met an MP before.  We talked to Mike about our community and things we think need to change in our area.  Young people often have a bad reputation, although 99% of us work hard and get on with people.  Now we’ve come up with a campaign that challenges that reputation and shows we’re not afraid of getting our hands dirty to improve our local area.  We’re a force for good in Wythenshawe!”

Last year Wythenshawe Community Housing Group’s Youth Service engaged with over 2,000 young people in the area and are keen for young people to be given opportunities to have their voices heard.

Nigel Wilson, Group Chief Executive of WCHG said; “Housing Associations have a unique opportunity to bridge the gap between individuals, neighbourhoods and local government.  WCHG are at the heart of community investment in the Wythenshawe area and are especially keen to provide help and support for young people.  Whether it is through job and training opportunities or creating forums like this, we want to be play in the well-being and promotion of the people who are the future of Wythenshawe.”
