Responding to the news today that a fire had broken out at the historic Wythenshawe Hall in his constituency local MP, Mike Kane said: “This really is devastating news. The hall is a much loved local landmark and a key attraction in the park.”
The hall is a 16th-century medieval timber-framed historic house, which was once the stately home of the Tatton family for more than 600 years.
Mike added: “We are already setting up meetings with the Council, the Friends Group and Councillors in the area to form a plan as to how we can secure the necessary funding to restore the hall to its former glory.”
“I have already brought the issue to the attention of the Department for Culture, Media and Sport. We will be fighting to ensure that the hall remains a historic landmark in Wythenshawe for another 600 years!”
“I know that the community in Wythenshawe will be right behind the campaign to save the hall.”
The image of the hall was used for Mike's first Christmas Card as the MP for Wythenshawe & Sale East and was taken by Libby Edwards one of the Friends of Wythenshawe Hall.
