We are currently waiting for a Levelling Up bid to kickstart our regeneration in Wythenshawe town centre after a fantastic couple of consultation sessions with residents. On the Sale side, Trafford Council have put a levelling up bid for Sale Town centre too – if both are successful, it will be an exciting time for the constituency as we see the continued improvements and developments of both town centres.

At the beginning of December, I brought the ‘Who built Wythenshawe’ exhibition to London to a reception hosted by Professor Michael Wood. I did this to raise the profile of the constituency on a national stage which should help us with our levelling up bid, support to rebuild Sale High School and our work to secure a financial solution to move ahead with plans for Medipark and the Wythenshawe Hospital campus.

Last year, there was a real crisis around secondary school allocations, I received hundreds of enquiries from worried parents trying to secure places for their children here in Wythenshawe and Sale East. As you know, I campaigned hard to keep Newall Green open and have continued to apply pressure – working with Manchester City Council – to get the school reopened.

I am now delighted to report that, in Sept 2023, Dixons Newall Green will be operating on the site. This, in turn, will take pressure off school waiting lists and secure another school in the Wythenshawe and Sale East area.

On the Dixon’s academy front, there is a consultation happening about the proposal to open the academy. Should you wish to, you can have your say here: https://www.dixonsng.com/about/consultation
