Labour would save you £1,000 this Winter
This cost of living crisis is unsustainable and we as a country cannot continue making working people pay whatever the big energy companies demand. People are scared about how they’ll get through the winter. This is a national economic emergency, but the Conservative government is putting the profits of oil and gas giants before the British people.
Labour would stop the price cap from going up. That would save you all £1,000 this winter and we would invest in sustainable, home-grown energy to bring bills down in the long term. I don’t think it’s reasonable or fair that people living in Wythenshawe and Sale East should be subsidising the huge profits made by oil and gas multinational businesses.
We have a fully costed and fully funded £29bn plan to stop bills going up this winter and typically saving households £1,000, paid for by taxing oil and gas producers who are making record profits.
In addition to this, these steps will bring inflation down by 4%, making interest rate rises less likely and easing the burden on households and businesses.
We’ll invest more in sustainable, British, energy sources which means we won’t have to rely on expensive fossil fuels. Our Warm Homes Plan will insulate millions more homes to reduce the amount of energy we need and save more money off bills. We called for this a year ago. In that time, 2m homes could’ve been insulated and made more energy efficient.
The Conservatives have lost control of the economy, and working people are paying the price. Much as they would want the British people to forget the fact we’ve had 12 years of Tory government. A Government which has consistently refused to, or has failed to secure our energy supplies, leaving bills higher and our country less secure.
Labour’s fully-funded plan would stop bills rising now, and create sustainable energy for the future – helping people get through the winter while providing the foundations for a stronger, more secure economy. Only Labour can give Britain the fresh start it needs.
