The focus for the Shadow Education Team continues to be the real terms cuts to school funding.
In his Budget announcement on Monday, the Chancellor promised £400m to schools for “the little extras”.
It further insults parents and teachers for the Chancellor to use such patronising terms when school budgets have been cut by billions and head-teachers are begging parents for money for basic supplies like books and stationery.
Since we returned from summer recess I have responded on behalf of the Labour frontbench to two Westminster Hall debates on schools: The costs of School Uniforms, and School Funding.
Both these topics highlight the chasm in funding for schools. The next Labour Education team, led by my wonderful comrade Angela Rayner, will fund schools properly as part of our truly radical National Education Service.
