Mike congratulates local British Kebab Award winner

Wythenshawe & Sale East MP Mike Kane has congratulated Kebabalicious on winning a prestigious British Kebab Award.

Kebabalicious on Hollyhedge Road has been awarded with the British Kebab Award for Just East Best Delivery. The restaurant was announced as the winner at a ceremony in London o 7th January, attended by over 1,200 people.

And Mike Kane has welcomed the news as showcasing local success in the kebab industry.

Gongs were presented for a total of 14 categories at the third annual British Kebab Awards, following a competitive nomination process.

A panel of judges including MPs Nadhim Zahawi, Jonathan Reynolds, Andy Love and Keith Vaz, as well as Baroness Hussein-Ece, helped decide the winners of each category – although anyone could vote for their favourite kebab outlet from a shortlist for each category.

The Awards have become a fixture in the annual food awards calendar, and celebrate the growing contribution of the kebab industry to the UK.

The British kebab industry contributes over £2.2 billion annually to the British economy, supporting around 200,000 jobs across restaurants, suppliers and the food industry in the UK. There are also around 200 doner kebab manufacturers in the UK, with a turnover in excess of £750m.

The first kebab shop opened in North London in 1966 and there are now over 20,000 kebab outlets in the UK selling an estimated 1.3m kebabs every day.
